Some may need pacemakers or pacemaker defibrillators,” says Dr. Sankar Varanasi, Cardiac Electrophysiologist with The Heart Center in Poughkeepsie. A cardiologist for 14 years, nine at the Heart Center, Dr. Varanasi also treats congestive heart failure and performs procedures for complex arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation. A cardiac electrophysiologist is a cardiologist who receives additional, focused training in the field of Arrhythmias.

After obtaining his medical degree from Osmania Medical College in India, completing his internship at The Mount Vernon Hospital in New York and his residency in internal medicine at Yale University’s Norwalk Hospital, Dr. Varanasi went on to receive fellowships in cardiac electrophysiology, cardiac pacing and adult cardiovascular medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Heart Rhythm Society.
