The Hudson Valley Heart CenterCategories:
Essential Information
“We have instituted a highly successful emergency cardiac program that provides 24-hour coverage for heart attack patients and administers life-saving angioplasty treatment usually within 75 minutes of entering the ER,” says Dr. Gorwara, cardiologist with the Hudson Valley Heart Center and Director of Interventional Cardiology at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. “With a heart attack, time is muscle; the faster you get the artery open the less damage to the heart and the higher the likelihood of survival,” Dr. Gorwara says. Trained at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in coronary angioplasty and the use of stents, Dr. Gorwara also performs peripheral vascular interventions for blockages in the arteries of the legs, neck, arms, and kidneys. In fact, he has the distinction of performing the highest volume of peripheral interventions in the region. “It’s very rewarding to be able to offer a better quality of life to patients who previously could not walk due to blockages in their legs,” he says.
