“We have instituted a highly successful angioplasty program that provides 24 hour coverage for heart attack patients and administers treatment within 75 minutes of entering the ER,” says Dr. Simon Gorwara interventional cardiologist with Hudson Valley Heart Center in Poughkeepsie. “With a heart attack, time is muscle, the faster you get the artery open the less damage and the higher the likelihood of survival,” Dr. Gorwara says. Highly skilled at coronary angioplasty and the use of stents, Dr. Gorwara also performs peripheral vascular angioplasty for blockages in the arteries of the legs, neck, arms and kidneys. In fact, he has the distinction of performing the highest volume of peripheral interventions in the region. “I see patients who cannot walk due to non life-threatening blockages who want a better quality of life.”
Dr. Gorwara also sees general cardiology patients and receives referrals from primary care physicians and other cardiologists, as well as referrals from patients. An award winning physician, Dr. Gorwara is board certified in Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in Coronary Disease, Interventional Cardiology and Critical Care Medicine.
