Meet Dr. Valerie Zarcone: an innovative osteopathic physician whose specialty is internal medicine. She practices in Putnam Valley; just as her well-known and respected father, Dr. John Zarcone, did for many years. As a graduate of Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, she joined her father after post-graduate training in the United States Public health Corps and subsequently at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn. Both training environments exposed the young physician to a host of conditions and illnesses not generally experienced, as well as those encountered routinely. It provided Dr. Zarcone with a solid foundation as she headed back to Putnam Valley to join her father’s medical practice. The family team practiced together from 1984 until his passing in 1997. She continues his legacy of compassion and medical excellence. To further this goal, Dr. Zarcone joined the NYU Langone faculty practice in April 2012.
The popular physician was one of the first in the Hudson Valley to bring non-invasive risk evaluation of heart disease and stroke, with the advanced technology Endo-PAT2000. The device is used worldwide by reliable physicians. The procedure measures function of the endothelium (blood vessels), similar to measuring blood pressure: with a cuff around the arm, and another one around a finger. Patients are finished in about 15 minutes. No pain, no blood work, no needles, and is low cost (covered by some insurance plans).
Dr. Zarcone, who finished six years on the hospital Medical Board, remains active in physician leadership and has an interest in maintaining high standards for herself and her peers. This is evident with her long-term involvement in the Hudson Valley Hospital’s Board of Directors. The physician is chair of the Critical Care Committee for the past 10 years. Additionally, Dr. Zarcone is a past Medical Staff President.
Recently she obtained a fellowship in Integrated Medicine from the University of Arizona. Integrated Medicine focuses on health and wellness. Modalities include nutrition and mind/body techniques.
New patients are welcomed and encouraged to come in to meet Dr. Zarcone to discuss their medical issues or evaluate any concerns.
