Like your movies by moonlight? Here’s where to watch the latest flicks the old-fashioned way

This summer, we finally bid farewell to the Fair Oaks Drive-In in Middletown, which had been entertaining audiences since the 1960s. But don’t worry: The drive-in culture is still thriving here in the Hudson Valley with six other theaters packing them in.

Ed. note: Despite telling us that they would not reopen this year, Fair Oaks is, indeed, back in business!

Four Brothers Drive-In Amenia
This theater, with a 56-foot wide screen, is the newest drive-in in New York State. Working in conjunction with the popular Four Brothers restaurant chain, you can have full meals delivered right to your car. Or check out a pre-movie show or opt to have your windshield washed. Hi-Way Drive-In Coxsackie
Aptly known as the “cinema under the stars,” this Coxsackie theater offers four big screens showing double features every night. $9, $5 children under 12. 518-731-8672; www.hiwaydrivein.com

Hollywood Drive-In Averill Park
This drive-in, which can accommodate up to 400 cars, enters its 63rd year of showing contemporary films. Enjoy movies on its 88-foot-wide screen and chow down on freshly made pizza at its newly renovated concession building. Free passes are given out randomly, so keep an eye out for them in your popcorn. Hyde Park Drive-In Hyde Park

Overlook Drive-In Poughkeepsie
