No ordinary veterinary practice, Four Paws Holistic Veterinary Hospital uses a holistic approach in its care of animal patients. “I look at the pet as a whole,” said Dr. Judith Edoff, the hospitals veterinarian and a certified veterinary acupuncturist. “I treat the entire animal, not just the symptoms.
Dr. Edoff cares for pets in her hospital, which includes an in-hospital lab, pharmacy, x-ray, and surgical suites to accommodate her patients needs.
“I offer natural and alternative treatments as well as conventional treatments,” said Dr. Edoff. “I choose the treatment that’s the least invasive and the most effective for the patient,” with each remedy tailored to the individual patient.
Among the disorders treated at Four Paws are behavior problems, immune deficiencies, cognitive dysfunction, sports injuries, disc injuries, neurological disorders, cardiac conditions, arthritis, allergies, kidney disease and cancer.
Her alternative therapies include acupuncture, laser therapy, laser acupuncture, homeopathy, Western and Chinese herbal therapy, as well as nutritional and glandular therapy.
“I avoid over-vaccinating and over medicating,” said Dr. Edoff, with vaccines for younger pets given in split doses and older pets receiving blood tests to measure their levels of vaccine protection. Because stress can lead to disease and illness, Dr. Edoff takes the time to educate her patients owners on ways to keep their pets happy and at ease.
Many of the animals cared for by Dr. Edoff can’t tolerate conventional medicines because they are older or are compromised by medical conditions. “With natural treatments, they enjoy a longer and better quality of life,” said Dr. Edoff.
