Jewelry

Fine or fashion? Diamonds or pearls? Gold or platinum? Here’s what local jewelers have to say about the jewels today’s brides are choosing.

It’s Personal

Jewelry inscribed with personal messages is trending, says Mike Wilson of Wilson & Son Jewelers, who adds that it is also a popular way to propose.

Timeless Elegance

“Pearls are classic and beautiful,” says Robert Woodrow of R&M Woodrow Jewelers. “Today’s brides aren’t really going over the top” but are instead opting for one “focus piece.”

The Finer Things

“We encourage brides to select fine jewelry” rather than fashion jewelry, says Sue Matero of Matero Fine Jewelry & Design. Matero is noticing “a turn back to stud earrings with or without a small dangle.”

Single and Stacked

When it comes to bracelets, a gorgeous
bangle is hard to beat, especially when it’s dripping with diamonds, as these are. Wear one for simple elegance, or, if you prefer (and can afford it), stack them for a glamorous look.

Halos are Ultra-hot

Halo  settings — a diamond or gemstone encircled by pavé diamonds or gemstones — are still very popular, says Kari Gray-Hoff, director of merchandising at online jeweler Blue Nile, which has a Webroom at The Westchester. Designs vary from intricate “with vintage detailing to clean, simple bezels.”

Earrings and bracelets, such as this multi-strand bracelet by Richard Designs, are the strongest sellers at Be Unique Boutique.

Delicate Sparkle

According to Melissa Thompson, store director of Peridot Fine Jewelry, trends include “long, delicate earrings with movement; brides want something that will sparkle but not be overpowering and will mimic the flowing lines of their dresses.” Yellow gold has also been popular.
