Cupcake flavors and designs have been upgraded and now go far beyond the old-school choices of red velvet and chocolate ganache. If you’re sweet on these sweets, try these eight superb cupcake candidates that are anything but run-of-the-mill.

This Best of Westchester-winning confectioner will deliver all over the county, with variable pricing ranging from $25 for parts of lower Westchester and $45 and up as you travel north. Set-up is $75. Minimum order is a dozen cupcakes at $4 per cupcake. Tasting kits start at $25.

Earl Grey Cupcake with Lemon Buttercream Frosting
Maxine’s Earl Grey Cupcake with Lemon Buttercream Frosting features an unusual combination of flavors that blend really well together. For those who have guests with dietary restrictions, Owner/Chef Maxine Stein offers a gluten-free version of just about everything.
Cupcakes start at $3.25 each with a minimum of 50 per order. Stein’s delivery area covers the Hudson Valley (to the Catskills), and there is an additional $50 delivery charge, depending upon distance.

Looking to bring home the nostalgic flavors of a town fair? This made-from-scratch Caramel Corn Cupcake is sweet corn cake topped with vanilla buttercream, decorated with popcorn and homemade caramel.
To order, contact owner Brandon Harris for a consultation and tasting ($30) that goes towards the balance of the order. Delivery is available within a 60-mile radius (at $1 per mile round-trip). Minimum order for delivery is $200; cupcakes start at $2.75 each.

The Hot Chocolate Cupcake is a cocoa-based cake with toasted marshmallows, topped with hot-chocolate frosting, mini marshmallows, and a cookie straw.It’s just as decadent as it sounds, and comes in a gluten-free version.
There is a six cupcake minimum, and cupcakes cost $3 each. Delivery starts at $20, with an additional $25 for set-up.

Owner Lisa Wolf’s Passion & Roses Cupcake is a lemon cupcake filled with passion-fruit-flavored curd and topped with rosewater buttercream and petals made of white chocolate. Wolf uses only organic dairy products and, where possible, sources ingredients from local farms.
Cupcakes can be delivered throughout the Hudson Valley or New York metro area. Minimum for delivery is 48; cost is $30/dozen or about $2.50 each.
