Fishkill goes for the grape as a new wine bar, Piano Piano Wine Bar, opens up on Main Street

Just around the corner, Piano Piano (that’s Italian for “easy, easy”) encourages patrons to shed the stresses of the outside world in favor of something a little more — you guessed it — easygoing. Opened in August by the Hopewell Junction husband-and-wife team of Rich and Anne Corbo, the space is airy, situated on the first floor of a historic brick building that served as Fishkill’s bank and town hall in the mid-1800s. A custom-made granite bar positioned under a double archway offers three dozen microbrews and wines, including the blends that seem so hot right now. Says Anne Corbo: “We try to find wines that aren’t readily available at local liquor stores and restaurants; we want people to experiment and try new things.”

The main dining area at the wine bar features ample light, open archways, and — of course — deep wine-colored wallsThe space — which seats about 50 — is suitable for anything from intimate dinners with live music to corporate and private events. (In November, Piano Piano even hosted the “reveal” party for a New Yorker who won a beauty makeover.) A small-plates menu offers brushetta, antipasto, biscotti, and espresso. “We’re definitely not wine snobs,” laughs Anne Corbo. “The whole idea is to have a place for you to go with friends and family, to have a lovely evening just conversing. We’re trying to reintroduce the art of conversation.”
