Where in the Hudson Valley Contest: “Wall Art” Legacy Mural
A new mural offers an upbeat view of a local town’s future
Drivers in one mid-Valley city may be surprised to see a huge splash of color strategically sprayed across what was just recently a bare street wall. Entitled “Legacy,” this new mural depicts a young girl who seems to be floating between a darkened city and a sunlit landscape. The piece is one of a series of outdoor paintings in the area which, when taken together, create an art-filled walking tour close to the river’s edge.
The mural is the fourth in the area’s “Life in Color” series, all painted by Chilean graffiti artist Dasic Fernandez. At times working well past midnight, the artist produced this detailed image by himself in only 14 days. He began by prepping and washing the wall, then applied one layer of paint across its entirety to create an even surface. Fernandez then used cans of spray paint to finish the design.
The wall painting represents the opti- mism of an area that has seen its share of hardship, but is striving to thrive and prosper in the future. It is hoped that, by transforming public spaces into artwork, the mural series will inspire the growth of art and culture while creating a vibrant, welcoming feeling for visitors to the city.
