Battle ropes are super-thick, long, heavy ropes anchored to a wall or sturdy pole. You hold onto the ends with both hands, then pump your arms up and down to create waves, along with lots of other moves that help you burn fat and build muscle tone — fast. “When most people think cardio, they think bikes, treadmills, ellipticals,” says Anthony Esposito CPT (below), who has added battle ropes to his gym, Anthony Esposito Fitness in New Windsor. “It has been said using the battle ropes is like ‘sprinting for the upper body,’” notes Esposito, who finds them to be tremendously helpful for overall fitness.
