New Restaurants and Hudson Valley Food and Dining News for July 2013
News and notes from the Valley’s dining scene for July 2013: A waterfront restaurant comes to Greene County, and Latin flair heads to Newburgh
Nothing beats riverside dining on a hot summer night. Good thing the Boathouse Grille set up shop on the Shady Harbor Marina in New Baltimore in May. The nautical-themed eatery naturally has great seafood options — linguine and clams along with fried calamari are highlighted on the Web site as chef’s specialties — and also incorporates some Latin American and Asian fusion elements. For those who might suffer with celiac problems, there are a few gluten-free appetizers and pizzas available. If you don’t have enough time for a sit-down meal, check out the handy to-go menu, which features most of the same dishes as the regular bill of fare.
Mediterranean and Latin cuisine mesh at El Solar Cafe, which recently opened in Newburgh. The avocado y relleno — an avocado stuffed with shrimp, diced tomatoes, red onions, and scallions that is then slathered in lemon, mayo, and yogurt sauce — stands out as a menu staple. The restaurant often hosts special event nights, during which salsa, jazz, or flamenco dancers and singers entertain guests; a special menu that complements the evening’s entertainment is also available. ¡Olé!
