  • Farm fact #1: 15% of New York State’s farms (5,326) are in the Hudson Valley
     
  • Farm fact #2: 17% of the region is farmland — equivalent to 1,325 square miles
     
  • Farm fact #3: Farmers in the Valley have collectively invested over $4 billion in farming, in the form of land, buildings, equipment and machinery
     
  • Farm fact #4: 42% of Hudson Valley farms are smaller than 50 acres
     
  • Farm fact #5: 37% of the region’s 8,803 farm operators are women (3,268) — an 11% increase from 2002
     
  • Farm fact #6: Farms contribute to tax revenues: For every $1 paid in taxes, farms take 29 cents in services. Residential properties take $1.29 for every dollar paid
