A favorite wine festival makes a return, learn how to make some summer salads, and stop by the new Royal Crepes for a sweet treat
For the 21st year, the Bounty of the Hudson Wine & Food Festival returns, this time at host Applewood Winery in Warwick. Expect fresh local produce like cheese, honey, small dishes from area restaurants, and, of course, wine. Sample all 15 wineries on the Gunks Wine Trail (plus a few surprise extras) in one place without driving far and wide. (July 30-31, 82 Four Corners Rd, Warwick; 845 988-9292; bountyofthehudson.com).
Check out the Calmbucha Café at the Kingston Farmer’s Market. The New Paltz-based company crafts sweet bubbly organic kombucha tea in small batches, with flavors inspired by locally sourced ingredients, served cold on tap. (Saturdays now through Nov. 26, Wall Street, Kingston in front of the Old Dutch Church; kingstonfarmersmarket.org).
What will you serve on your next picnic? If it’s just veggies and salad, then make a date to join Chef David Worth of Crossroads Restaurant at HGS Home Chef in Hillsdale and learn how to whip up portable summer fare like olive oil poached fish with parsley pesto and cold roasted lamb with romesco. Union Grove Distillery is the new kid on the block in Arkville. Take a seat at the copper bar in the cocktail lounge and enjoy a taste of Vly Creek Vodka (distilled from apples and wheat and named for a local fishing spot) or order a drink special du jour. On your next Second Saturday in Beacon, head to recently opened Royal Crepes for a sweet or savory treat. Nutella and coconut is a fave. Try a burek, the taco of Eastern Europe, which pairs various combinations of spiced meat, cheese, and spinach wrapped in a thin phyllo dough. A small European market offers Turkish coffee, rosehip marmalade, Croatian cheese, and other temptations (303 Main Street; 845-288-1436; facebook.com/RoyalCrepesBeacon)
