Where in the Hudson Valley...?

It’s getting more difficult to stump you, readers. Nearly all who wrote recognized that our “Forged Friend” in the May issue stands guard over Michael Evans’ property on Route 9G in Rhinebeck. Contest winner Tom Contursi of Staatsburg, a personal friend of Evans’, tells us that the sculptor is “an imaginative artist and exceptional welder.” This month’s quiz — which features a bus ride into the past — is on page 152. Good luck!

The snowman is a favorite of my kids. The boys were psyched when Spiderman was added. We’ve never seen him with the lights on. Now, we’ll keep our eyes open after dark.

Michael Evans’s sculptures are fanciful, filled with humor, and interesting. It is particularly fun at night with the lights glowing through all those openings. What a wonderful addition to our town.

It’s great to learn a little more about the artist and his work that I drive by so regularly.

Phelps faux pas

I kept paging through Healthy Hospitals (May), but could find no mention of Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow. Surely this facility, with its 50 clinical specialities, center for wound healing, and affiliation with Sloan-Kettering, merits a line or two.

All of us at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center were disappointed to see that Phelps was not among the Westchester hospitals written about in your May issue. Phelps offers more programs and services than any other community hospital in the region and is Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s sole affiliate north of Manhattan. The hospital is financially strong, regularly adds unique services, and serves an increasing number of patients. The size of Phelps’ facilities has literally doubled as part of our $50 million building plan. In September, we opened a 100,000-square-foot medical services building and this fall, we will open a new 18,000-square-foot emergency department. Phelps has much to be proud of, and we look forward to being covered in your highly regarded regional magazine in the future.

Editor’s note: Phelps Memorial was inadvertently omitted from our Healthy Hospitals coverage. Our apologies to both our readers and the hospital’s staff.
