Cream of the Crop

Choosing a physician is no easy task. Whether you’re searching for a cardiologist, obstetrician, or other specialist, or just need to locate a general practitioner for routine care, the requirements are the same. You want someone whose educational credentials are top-notch, and who is up-to-date on all the latest advances, both in medicine and in technology. Your doctor should be affiliated with a nearby hospital, and have an office that is reasonably close to your home or place of business. But perhaps the most important factor influencing your decision is personality: You want someone you feel comfortable with, someone you can rely on and trust. A tall order, yes — but don’t you deserve the best health care available?

Our annual Top Doctors cover story takes some of the guesswork out of this selection process. The 86 local MDs who made this year’s list received glowing recommendations — not from our editorial staff, but from their own colleagues: hospital administrators and (most tellingly) other doctors in the region. So when you’re looking for a medical professional, we hope you’ll keep this list handy to use as a starting point in your search for quality care.

June brings the return of summer, a season of long lazy afternoons (and evenings) spent barbecuing in the backyard, lounging near the pool — or enjoying some of the Valley’s many fairs, festivals, and related arts events. From chamber music to doo-wop, Shakespeare’s plays to an antique motorcycle show, our roundup lists 14 ways to have fun in the sun (or under the moon, as the case may be).

June also means parties — whether for a graduation, anniversary, family reunion, or (of course) a wedding. Our Summer Style article offers three runway-worthy looks that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. And Shop Talk showcases the hottest items — from a sleek kayak to a doggie raincoat — that will help you get the most out of this sizzling season. And when it’s time to cool off, check out the pisco sour, the new south-of-the-border cocktail that’s giving the popular cosmopolitan a run for its money.

Enjoy,
