Laura Piazza suffered with symptoms of Lyme disease for a decade before being diagnosed with that and other tick-borne diseases in 2009. After researching ways to alleviate her chronic illness, Piazza found a diet/lifestyle created by Dr. Kenneth B. Singleton that uses certain foods to calm the inflammation caused by Lyme and other disorders.

Piazza turned to her mom, food stylist Gail Piazza, to create dishes utilizing those foods. What resulted is Recipes for Repair, a 312-page book that guides readers through a 10-week lifestyle change.

The book isn’t just a collection of recipes (although there are more than 180 of them) — Laura and Gail explain the causes of inflammation in the body, and offer guidelines on “detoxing.” Beginner cooks will find great resources in this book, including a glossary of cooking terms, how-to’s, and tips on maintaining a pantry. And Gail’s beautiful photographs make it a joy to thumb through the pages.
