Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day! Grab something green and check out these Celtic celebrations.

Theatre

Irish wit, witticisms, and humor abound.

Four comedians who trace their roots to the Emerald Isle team up and poke fun at everything from pet dogs to wild Irish family holidays during the Irish Comedy Tour. March 8, 7:30 p.m. $35.
They say Irish wakes are always eventful, and Patrick James Finnegan’s is no exception thanks to lively eulogies, sing-alongs, a missing corpse, and all the attendees at Finnegan’s Farewell. Step dancers leap across local stages.

For more than two decades, Joan McGrenaghan’s Celtic Heels Irish Dance Troupe has performed elaborate jigs and reels in our region. March 1, 11 a.m. $9, $7 children.

Music

Both traditional and modern Celtic tunes transport audiences to Ireland.

Hailed as “the hottest Irish acoustic group on the planet” by the New York Times, Lúnasa puts a unique twist on traditional Celtic music. March 16, 7:30 p.m. $30 in advance, $35 at the door.

Considered by many to be one of the top Irish fiddlers of our time, Kevin Burke plays his solo concert, “The Naked Fiddle.” If you wish to imbibe, be aware that the event has a bring your own beer and wine policy. Masters of Tradition — which makes use of Irish instruments such as the fiddle, accordion, and uilleann pipe — play jigs, reels, and airs. March 25, 7:30 p.m. $28.

Parades

Bagpipes blare and the proud Irish march down many Main Streets this month.
  • March 1: Featuring more than 3,000 participants, the 19th annual Dutchess County St. Patrick’s Day Parade steps off at 1 p.m. and wends its way through Wappingers Falls. dcsppc.org
  • March 6: The third largest parade in the state, the Northern Westchester and Putnam St. Patrick’s Day Parade marches along Route 6 in Mahopac, beginning at 2 p.m. saintpatricksdayparade.net
  • March 15: The 64th Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade — which begins at 2 p.m. on Quail Street and Central Avenue — is preceded by Mass at the city’s Blessed Sacrament Church. albanystpatricksdayparade.com
  • March 16: Marchers in the Kingston St. Patrick’s Parade begin at the Kingston Plaza at 1 p.m. and continue into the Rondout section. Spectators who arrive at 12:30 p.m. can watch the 26th annual Shamrock Run. ulsteraoh.com/parade.htm
  • March 16: Stepping off from Orange County’s Government Center at 2 p.m., the Mid-Hudson St. Patrick’s Parade marches through Goshen. mhspp.org
  • March 23: Rockland County AOH St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at 1:30 p.m. in Pearl River, and has been known to attract close to 80,000 spectators in past years. rocklandcountyaoh.com
