The 411: More than 200 years ago, fires blazing from the summit of Mount Beacon alerted the Continental Army to redcoat advances. Today, Beacon is a haven for hipster transplants from Gotham who have revitalized the city.
Dia: Beacon, a massive modern art museum built in a former Nabisco printing plant, is one of the few venues with the requisite space to exhibit large-scale installations. Where else could you see Andy Warhol’s Shadows, which is 350 feet long? Dia’s 2003 opening cemented the city’s reputation as the art capital of upstate New York.
