Cornwall-on-Hudson

The 411: When explorer Henry Hudson first sailed up the river that now bears his name, in 1609, he stopped about 50 miles up-river and reportedly wrote in his ship’s log, “This is a very pleasant place to build a town on.”
There he founded Cornwall-on-Hudson, and today it remains a very pleasant place. The village, in the northeast corner of the town of Cornwall, sits in a valley formed by Schunemunk Mountain and the Hudson Highland ridges along the west bank of the Hudson River.
