Putnam Valley calls itself the “Town of Lakes,” and for good reason: Lake Oscawana, Lake Peekskill and Roaring Brook Lake offer more than 500 acres of fishing, boating and lakefront fun. The town’s natural delights are its main selling points. Situated in the Hudson Highlands, the town has more than one third of its total area devoted to preserved space, including the gorgeous, 5,500-acre Clarence Fahnestock State Park. Its beauty has been captured by filmmakers (Malcolm X, Die Hard with a Vengeance) and TV producers (The Sopranos). Celebrities such as Donald Trump, who owned land here that is now Donald J. Trump State Park, and Dr. Ruth Westheimer have called Putnam Valley home.
