This tony suburb, settled by 35 Palatine Germans in 1714, is a great place to go to dinner and see a movie. Terrapin, Calico, Gigi, China Rose, Diaspora, Tanjore—all are culinary gems, and Upstate Films is the area’s premier arthouse cinema. The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, a museum of antique aircraft, features barnstorming, crowd-pleasing shows on the weekends. Northern Dutchess Hospital boasts a birthing center, and is the choice of many pregnant women who seek a natural birth experience. Check out the town’s many great shops, as well as the Rhinebeck Farmer’s Market, which is arguably the Valley’s best.
