Wappingers Falls

Founded way back in 1659, the village, named for the local Indian tribe, was built around the waterfall on Wappinger Creek, which was essential to early industry. Said creek divides the village in half; the eastern section is in the Town of Poughkeepsie; the western, the Town of Wappinger. This makes the already confusing town/village/school district/zip code distinctions even more of a puzzlement. The village itself resembles the historic section of Poughkeepsie, and its stretch of Route 9 is more or less indistinguishable from that of its neighbor to the north. Home to the County Players Falls Theatre.
