Street smarts

Nov. 27-28: Sesame Street Celebration If anyone can tell you how to get to Sesame Street, it’s the New York State Museum. Spend an afternoon looking through their exhibit devoted to the beloved children’s show and participate in celebrating the 40th anniversary of the museum’s Sesame Street workshop. There you’ll create cool crafts and take part in other activities, including a parade that travels throughout the building. 1-4 p.m. in the Student Center. • Madison Ave., Albany. 518-474-5877 or www.nysm.nysed.gov

He will rock you

Nov. 14: Uncle Rock and the Playthings Get ready to “dance with your daddy, mosh with your mommy, and groove with your granny” as children’s folk-rock musician Uncle Rock swings by Proctors to perform tunes off his latest album, The Big Picture. Backed by his five-piece band the Playthings, Uncle Rock’s songs cover topics ranging from the socially conscious “Stop at a Mom n’ Pop,” to the cautionary “Leave the Bees Be,” to the just-plain-fun “Buddy Holly’s Got the Hiccups.” Beloved by both the young and the young-at-heart, Uncle Rock’s shows have been known to get kids of all ages dancing in the aisles. 2 p.m. $9, $7 under 18. • 432 State St., Schenectady. 518-346-6204 or www.proctors.org

Made in America

Nov. 21: Native American Toys and Games Discover what early Native American children did for fun during this interactive program at the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum. Just in time for Thanksgiving, you’ll see unique toys and learn about whimsical games from our country’s past. And of course, you’ll get to create your own replica toy to take home; don’t forget to show it off when the family gathers for Turkey Day! 10 a.m. $5. • Outdoor Discovery Center. Muser Dr., Cornwall. 845-534-5506, ext. 204 or www.hhnaturemuseum.org
