Situated along the Newburgh waterfront, Billy Joe’s Ribworks is best known for its fall-off-the-bone ribs and exuberant nightlife. And while it’s the norm for guests dining in the city’s riverside restaurants to dress to impress and maintain a chic appearance, you can throw etiquette to the wind when you dig into Ribworks’ Porky Mac ($13.99). Tender barbecued pulled pork is woven into a thick cheesy casserole with crumbled bacon, scallions, and cheddar on top, providing the perfect blend of sweet and salty, soft and chewy. For the vegetarian friend who gets roped into dining at a smokehouse barbecue joint with friends, there’s the Veggie Mac ($12.99) with broccoli, sautéed onions, scallions, tomatoes, and cheddar. Try as hard as you can to save room for a slice of Billy Joe’s Bourbon Pecan Pie or the molasses-sweetened corn bread pudding corn bread pudding (both $5.99) for a proper Southern-inspired dessert.
