Noshi’s Coney Island, Poughkeepsie

Best place to eat on the cheap in 2012: Noshi’s Coney Island, Poughkeepsie

Drive too fast down Main Street in Poughkeepsie and you’ll pass right by this no-frills hot dog joint, missing out on the Valley’s finest version of Midwest flavor: The Chicago Dog ($2.75). These Windy City pups are grilled to a snappy delight, then smothered in dill pickle, onions, tomatoes, relish, yellow mustard, and celery salt, all nestled into a fresh bun. Noshi’s menu offers flavors from U.S. locales known for their unique take on franks — Detroit, Brooklyn, and Texas included — but the family-owned eatery shows love to its waterfront city with the P-Town Dog ($3), topped with sautéed mushrooms, barbecue sauce, bacon, and nacho cheese.
