Fall Into the Best
A word from Hudson Valley’s Editor in Chief, Olivia J. Abel
October promises to be an exciting month here in the Hudson Valley. As the days get shorter and the nights cooler, the leaf-peeping crowd should be out in full force. (Hopefully the soggy summer will contribute to more vibrant fall colors than we’ve seen in the last few years.) If you’re an outdoors enthusiast, there’s no better time to go for a hike or a jog, take a bike ride, play a round of golf, or otherwise enjoy this area’s most temperate season.
This month also marks the opening of the long-awaited Walkway Over the Hudson, the historic railway bridge-turned-linear park that is the touchstone of this year’s Quadricentennial celebrations. Our feature story gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how the fire-scarred bridge was transformed into New York State’s newest — and most anticipated — state park.
But here at HV, October is all about the Best of Hudson Valley TKTKTTKK, our annual round-up of the people, places, products, and services that make our region such a special place. Have a hankering for a great burger, burrito, or slice of cheesecake? We’ll tell you where to find all three — as well as dozens of other dining treats. Seeking a soothing facial, pedicure, or other spa service? We’ve got you covered, head to toe. Need to shop for your kids, pets, home, garden — or just yourself? Whether it’s toys or tools, Pinot Grigio or gardening gloves, we steer you toward local merchants who can fulfill your every need.
Want to sample what our winners have to offer? Then mark your calendar for our Best of Hudson Valley Party on October 15 at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. Click here for tickets — and check out the video of last year’s shindig to see what all the fuss is about.
Enjoy the beautiful season.
