Where in the Hudson Valley...?

We challenged readers to locate a local beacon of light in last month’s contest. Germantown’s Tony Stagno quickly identified it as the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse, which has guided ships away from the dangerous Middle Ground Flats for more than a century. This month, click here to see if you know where to find an auspicious observatory…
What a sight this is — as are the many historic lighthouses that line the upper Hudson Valley on the mighty Hudson River.
This is the Hudson-Athens lighthouse, often called the Hudson City Light. It is actually a little closer to Hudson than Athens. We often visit the lighthouse when the boat tours are offered from Hudson. It is a great place to visit on a nice day.

I enjoyed the article “Ultimate Outdoor Adventures” (July), and found good information about hiking activities. I wished, though, that you had mentioned our local hiking club, the North Jersey Ramapo chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club. We conduct hikes every weekend throughout the year in the Hudson Valley.
I bought a six-pack of Southern Tier Porter after reading the “Guide to Local Beer” article (August) and loved it!

The gardens at Mirbeau Inn & Spa are modeled after Claude Monet’s paintings of his gardens at Giverny, not Givenchy as we erroneously stated.
