Drink of the Dead
Carmen, a cocktail created by Pia Bazzani, cocktail creator at Crown in Kingston, takes inspiration from both Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos, the Mexican holiday celebrating the lives of deceased family members that also falls on October 31. By incorporating mezcal for a spirit and chocolate bitters for a treat, Carmen “resembles a rich, smoky, slightly spiced chocolate candy bar,” according to Bazzani.
15 oz Del Amigo Mezcal
10 oz Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur
10 oz La Quintineye Sweet Vermouth
Five 5-oz bottles Scrappys chocolate bitters
Add all ingredients into a large glass carafe, starting with the bitters. Chill overnight. When serving add 3.5 oz over ice and garnish with an orange twist.
