Greene

Verdant though it surely is, Greene County is not named for its foliage, but rather, in honor of the American Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene. The south-central region is dominated by the forever-wild Catskill Park and its breathtaking vistas, which inspired Hudson River School artists like Thomas Cole to live and work here. Today, tourists and second homeowners are drawn by scenery and outdoor adventure. Interestingly, the county’s Chamber of Commerce reports that women own about a quarter of county businesses.

Even as a star, he returned to his hometown often, introducing his films at the Brooks Opera House (now Crossroads Brewing Co.), and even filming around town.
