Rockland

Stony Point Lighthouse

Though small in size, Rockland County is big on things to do. Remarkably, while the area is only about 20 miles from New York City, it’s approximately one-third parkland. Bear Mountain, Harriman, Nyack Beach, and Rockland Lake are state parks all within its boundaries. Luckily for shoppers, the Palisades Center and the Shops at Nanuet also call Rockland home. Industries that thrive here include health, retail, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and research businesses, including Columbia University’s Lamont–Doherty Earth Observatory. Foodies here are especially blessed, with a plethora of international restaurants.

Stop in for exhibitions, performances, and one-of-a-kind, art-centric classes and events at the Rockland Center for the Arts; Indulge in Zagat-rated Japanese food at Wasabi Restaurant.
