12 New Hudson Valley Restaurant Openings to Bookmark for 2019
A new year means a whole slew of new eateries to check out along the Hudson River.
Once it opens at the end of January, DPNB will serve the dreamy pasta dishes for which Italian cities like Bologna is known. Said noodles are crafted by none other than Chef Tony Scotto, a.k.a. @droppastanotbombs on Instagram and the executive chef at Hudson’s Fish & Game. As one look at the chef’s feed will reveal, the local foodie takes homemade pasta very, very seriously. He partners with his wife, Louiedell, to serve the handcrafted spaghetti, orecchiette, linguine, you name it, alongside standby Italian dishes and select imported products.
After a slight delay following setbacks with holiday construction, Hudson Taco gears up for a grand opening this month. Look out for the tacos, crafted by head chefs Jason Kooperman and Matt Sherry, who tempt taste buds with contemporary spins on Mexican-inspired classics. To drink, a curated tequila bar and the signature Newburgh Brewing Company Amaízing corn lager add to the authentic flavors housed inside the historic West Shore Train Station.
Although Pie Lady & Son has been around in the Hudson Valley for more than 20 years, it’s finally outgrown its original location. With a planned open date in January 2019, the Rockland shop’s new space boasts additional square footage and an increase in parking options. In terms of the menu, however, the eatery will keep serving the signature pies that locals love so much.
Helmed by longtime Peck’s Arcade server Quang Tran, Troy’s newest eatery will fill a significant void in Troy’s restaurant spread. Instead of trekking to Albany for Vietnamese fare, locals can walk to the back of Kim’s Convenience to the 26-seat restaurant for lunch or dinner. Specialties include Vietnamese stables like pho and spring rolls, both of which delight the palate without weighing it down.

Rockland County cook and weight-loss blogger Rocky Alexander pursues a new direction in 2019 with the opening of Rock’s Kitchen, his health-food focused eatery in Stony Point. Nutrition-minded individuals will love the clean-eating bowls and salads featured on the menu, which emphasizes high protein and low carb components.

Situated inside Nyack’s old Woolworth building, the new Main Street shop will serve as a combination sports bar, smokehouse, and brewery in Rockland County. The space has only given sneak peeks of the interior thus far, but the already apparent charm of the vintage exterior and exposed brick inside will have you planning a trip there as soon as the big open occurs.
While details are still largely under wraps, The Barking Goose will bring books and beer to Newburgh beginning in March. If the success of similar concept bookstore/bar venues like Rough Draft in Kingston and Spotty Dog in Hudson is any indication, it won’t be long before Barking Goose is packed to the brim.

If there’s anything the Hudson Valley food scene lacks, it’s an honest-to-goodness tiki bar. Seriously, though, when Fuchsia Tiki Bar opens in New Paltz in March, it will bring a mix of classic cocktails and zesty sips to the college town. A little bit hole-in-the-wall, a little bit tropical escape, Fuchsia is the colorful community bar that will make you feel like you’re on vacation in Mexico while still in the Hudson Valley…in the middle of winter.
It was a sad, sad day when the Hudson Valley said goodbye to Gomen Kudasai in New Paltz. Fortunately, owner Yuoko Yamamoto is back and better than ever in the local food scene this spring. This time, she’s switching things up with a Kingston location that focuses on simple, flavorful ramen dishes. If you needed another excuse to check out Kingston’s thriving restaurant scene, this would most definitely be it.

After a devastating fire tore through Joseph’s Steakhouse in March 2017, it looked like the end of an era for the Hyde Park mainstay. Fast-forward a year, and the eatery is hard at work on renovations to the space before its projected reopen in April. While the space will continue operation under the same owners, it will welcome a slight name change and Italian-influenced additions to its menu. Steak lovers shouldn’t fret, though. Prime cuts of beef will continue to feature prominently on the entrée roster.
Where: Wappingers Falls
Everyone’s favorite mac and cheese restaurant (and winner of multiple Best of Hudson Valley awards) expand in a big way this spring when it opens a second location in Wappingers Falls. Set along Route 9, the sister spot will very likely be just as much of a cheesy nirvana as the original Middletown location is. With everything from sriracha to brie and cranberry varieties, Mix N Mac has a version of America’s favorite comfort food for every eater. New for 2019, the eatery now serves vegan mac as well.

Details are scarce about Ama in Fishkill. What we do know is that the upcoming eatery is part of the same restaurant family behind Café Amarcord and Enoteca Ama in Beacon. As the sign outside declares, the spot will emphasize wood-fired eats alongside a bar program. If the menu is anything like the ones at Ama’s sister spots in Beacon, it can only be delicious.
