As anyone who’s ever been to the Rosticceria Rossi & Sons flagship on South Clover Street can attest, the quarters are more than a little cozy. Not that it’s a bad thing, of course. It’s the only way the pint-sized interior can stock its shelves with enticing Italian imports and fill its counters with endless antipasti, crusty loaves of bread, and mouthwatering hunks of salty prosciutto.

Yet when rush hours roll around (a.k.a. during lunchtime), making it to the deli counter is a struggle; it’s common for the line to extend out the door. That’s why we did a little happy dance when we heard that, for the first time in its 40-year history — the Italian rosticceria is opening its second brick-and-mortar location at Eastdale Village.

“Opening a second location was simply the right next step for the business, which continues to grow year after year,” explains Roberto Rossi. “We’re thrilled to open an additional brick-and-mortar deli from the ground up and doing so at Eastdale Village is the perfect collaboration. They have guided us through the entire process from identifying a location and the necessary space size to gathering all needed entitlement approvals.”

Set to open in fall 2020, the new location will operate as an extension of the original space in Poughkeepsie’s Little Italy district. While the deli, which dates back to 1979 and also has an outpost at Marist College, plans to keep both locations, it will use the new space to expand its presence in the Hudson Valley and cater to a more widespread community.

"This project has been years in the making and we are beyond excited to be a part of what will be an amazing addition to our community," adds Fabio Rossi. "Eastdale will be a true destination location – not only an eat-work-play community, but a place that people will travel to see and enjoy."

Rossi’s will sit prominently within live-work-play community Eastdale Village’s retail sector. It will join recently announced additions like Amanda’s Macaron Shoppe, the online macaron company which is opening its first brick-and-mortar location, and Sweetbakes Café, the custom cake shop and eatery which is moving from Wappingers Falls to Poughkeepsie. On the home and shopping front, Ye Olde Candle Shoppe will set up shop on the grounds as well.

As construction by Kirchhoff Companies continues at Eastdale Village, the development will unveil new eateries and retailers (many of whom are Best of Hudson Valley winners) as they sign their leases. When complete, the community hub on Dutchess Turnpike will boast approximately 390 luxury rental residential units ranging from studios to one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. Nearby, more than 120,000 square feet will be dedicated to a medley of commercial, retail, medical, and office space. Premier Medical’s new urology center debuts in January and will be a central healthcare resource for the Hudson Valley community at large.

With 60-plus acres to its name, Eastdale Village will be a destination for nature lovers as well. A full 25 acres will be dedicated to parkland and recreation, with access to the picturesque Wappinger Creek.
