This week in the Valley, we tell you where to watch Monday’s game, get in on a kitty-themed Oktoberfest, and more

Folks should be making a feline for this seasonal event.

We see you over there, counting down the minutes ‘til 5 pm. That’s why we’ve selected some events to keep you moving through the work week, and yes, some of them involve alcohol. So drink up some Valley fun, cause here’s to another week.

MONDAY
Monday Night Football, Garrison

It's been a rough first five weeks for the Jets, who've rung up one win in the face of four losses. But there is hope, and it starts tonight when Gang Green attempts to mount a resurgence against the Carson Palmer-led Arizona Cardinals on the most prominent of national platforms, Monday Night Football. And we'd be hard-pressed to come up with a better spot to witness their resurgence first-hand than Garrison's destination sports bar/museum, The Stadium. Or if things go from bad to worse, you can wistfully gaze at Jets memorabilia resting behind glass and raise a pint to Broadway Joe. (P.S. the kitchen closes at 10, so fill up early.)

TUESDAY
Brown Bear, Brown Bear & Other Treasured Stories, Kingston

Many of us grew up reading Eric Carle’s famous storybooks, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, and Papa, Please Get the Moon For Me, and they're still treasured by a new generation. Now touring the U.S., the Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia has reached the Hudson Valley with a musical puppet show honoring these celebrated tales using whimsical visual effects and vocal narration. Can’t make it on Tuesday? Take your Pre-K through second-grader to the Bardavon in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday for the one-hour performance and watch their eyes light up, just as yours did many years ago.

WEDNESDAY
Oktopurrfest, Troy

Oktoberfest is still going strong in the Valley, but we can promise that you’ve never been to one quite like this. With proceeds benefiting the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS), this boozy event is kitty themed, featuring a Mewnich Marketplace full of treats, toys, and other fun feline surprises for purchase. You can even pet and play with MHHS cat Pappy South Paw. But regardless of whether you’re not a crazy cat lady, maybe we can purr-suade you with the plentiful vegan/vegetarian friendly German food options, traditional live music, and $3 beer specials.

THURSDAY
Shakes-Beer Read Along, Albany

To drink, or not to drink—that is the question (isn't it?). Troy’s Collar City Players are taking Shakespeare on the road, conducting a community improv show at various local breweries and cideries. This month, you can join in on all the monologues at Nine Pin Cider in Albany for a reading of Macbeth. The performance starts at 6:45 pm, but if you’re looking to read, head there before 6 pm and put your name on the sign-up sheet. Scripts will then be randomly distributed to the first 25 people on the list, and the crowd-sourcing will commence. Prizes for best first-time reader and audience’s favorite will be awarded at the end of the night.
