Well, it’s the last weekend in August (how did that happen?), but we’re not ready to bundle up in blankets and a pumpkin-spiced whatever just yet. So, while the air’s still warm and the sun is shining, here’s how to spend your last Friday-Sunday of the season.

Slide the City

Get wet and wild this weekend at a block party like no other. This touring event will take over downtown Nyack on Sunday, rolling out a gigantic 1,000-foot inflatable Slip’N Slide along Main Street. Choose from three super-soaked lanes: one tame enough for the little ones, another wide enough for family rides, and a high-speed “power” lane for all the daredevils out there. Lower-valley residents need not fret. Slide the City will be coming your way on Sept. 10, making its Westchester debut in Mt. Vernon. Registration for both events is required.

The Hudson Valley International Film Festival

The valley’s biggest independent film celebration is back, featuring a weekend-long lineup of compelling narratives, documentaries, animated features, and TV pilots from filmmakers both local and beyond. Opening-night attendees are invited to grab a drink and walk the Oscar-style red carpet alongside filmmakers and industry experts. Engage in Q&A sessions, workshops, and live entertainment between screenings, then conclude each night with dance-party ragers.

Wrestling Under the Stars

Get ready to rummmmmbbbbble… at Dutchess Stadium on Saturday, August 27 with former and current WWE and TNA superstars Kurt Angle, Cody Rhodes, Jerry “The King” Lawler, Matt Hardy, and many more. Plus, witness the first-ever match between New Japan legend Jushin Thunder Liger and six-time world champ Jeff Hardy. Be sure to get there early for an exclusive meet-and-greet autograph sesh at 3:30 pm.

Reenactment Day at Constitution Island will have you screaming, "Fire in the hole!"

Reenactment Day at Constitution Island

A true American treasure, West Point’s Constitution Island served as one of the Hudson Valley’s primary Revolutionary and Civil War forts. In honor of its legendary history, patrons are invited to the site for a day of games, storytelling, and period-based military reenactments, including weapon and artillery demonstrations, musket firings, camp life recreations, and various drills. While the event is free, donations are encouraged.

Harvest Festival

Mark your calendars for the return of Bethel Woods’ annual Harvest Festival on August 28. Stop by the farmers' market for seasonal pickings of fresh produce and specialty food items, or the craft village for locally curated treasures from more than 25 artisans. Then, grab a lawn chair and head to the festival stage for live music and thrilling performances from Judith Tulloch, El Camino, and Aeilushi Mistry Indian Dance. Rolling in with the kids? Check out the family art area for corn and hay mazes, educational programs, and horse and buggy rides. The festival continues every Sunday through September 25.
