It’s Veterans Day weekend, and if you’re lucky enough to have Friday off, these Valley events will keep you reading, eating, hiking, and cheering ‘til Monday.

Albany

Northeast Trek Con

What: In celebration of Star Trek’s 50th anniversary, this convention invites old-school “Trekkies” and young fans who grew up with newer J.J. Abrams reboots. Stop by this weekend for collectible memorabilia, science fiction finds, and even celebrity sightings.
When: Friday, Nov. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 13
Where: Radisson Hotel, Albany

Dutchess

Friends of the Pleasant Valley Library Fall Book Sale

What: Book worms, rejoice. Nearly 25,000 books, CDs, and DVDs will be available for purchase all weekend long, with a $5 bag fill-up sale on Sunday until 2 p.m. (after which, books are free!).
When: Friday, Nov. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 13
Where: Pleasant Valley Town Hall, Pleasant Valley

Orange

Thanksgiving Cake Decorating

What: Celebrate food and family at this kid-friendly cake decorating affair (cupcakes for those under 12). Baby bakers will learn decorating skills, like working with fondant and creating realistic renditions of traditional Thanksgiving foods.

Where: Greenwood Lake Public Library, Greenwood Lake

Rensselaer

Beaver Moonlit Walk

What: Grab a flashlight and take a guided tour through the park’s winding trails and terrain under a nearly full Beaver Moon. Following the two-mile stroll, huddle up with some hot chocolate inside.

Where: Schodack Island State Park, Schodack Landing

Ulster

Phantom of the Country Opera

When: Multiple performances Friday, Nov. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 20
Where: Coach House Theater, Kingston
