This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Hudson Children’s Book Festival, a celebration of the littlest readers and the books that cater to them. With over 75 authors and illustrators in attendance, expect reading workshops, activities, and meet and greet sessions galore. Food and drinks will be onsite for purchase, so bring a few dollars if you want to stay the whole day.
Mid-Hudson Civic Center, Poughkeepsie
May 4; 4 p.m. / 7 p.m.
Fashion gurus flock to Marist College’s annual fashion show to get a sneak peek of the up and coming designers in the Hudson Valley. The fashion program pulls out all the stops, so expect intricate designs, brand collaborations, and maybe even a celebrity appearance.
Poughkeepsie Farm Project, Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve, Poughkeepsie
May 5; 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Celebrate the start of farm season with a trip to Poughkeepsie’s favorite local initiative. Visitors can tour the farm grounds, meet the staff, and learn the ins and outs of the various programs that occur onsite. The farm also boasts a polenta grinder, a smoothie station, and a meditation garden. With all that and a variety of flowers and vegetables for sale, too, this day on the farm is a great choice for families.
DC Sports, Wappingers Falls
May 6; 1-5 p.m.
Bring the kids to this pre-summer fest at DC Sports. The little ones will flip for the bouncy house and mini golf. Everyone can snack on the carnivalesque food options, which include barbecue, cotton candy, and popcorn, before posing for a photo with the visiting princesses and pirates.
