Harvesting Hudson Valley Craft Beer Week's Highlights

Get ready to raise your glasses for the week-long event, which kicks off September 9

Mark your calendars for DeCicco & Sons' 2nd Annual Grand Tasting event on September16.

The Hudson Valley is about to get hoppy. From September 9-18, sip, sample, and slurp in a week-long celebration of local bottles and brews. Hudson Valley Craft Beer Week brings together countywide and countrywide beer lovers for a lineup of exclusive festivals, dinners, tours, and pub crawls, featuring many notable neighbors. Here’s a roundup of some of the most notable events.

September 10: Sour’d in September

Step aside, lager lovers and IPA addicts. This one’s for sour-beer believers. Join Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. for a day-long fest, featuring 75 of New York State’s best breweries. There, you’ll sample 100 tap-poured sour ales, including unique finds like Stillwater Arisanal’s comically named I Miss the Old Kanye, a root beer inspired brett-style porters, and Other Half Brewing Company’s wood-aged, oak-fermented sour ale with peaches.

September 13: “Paired” Brewer Chef Dinner

Hudson Valley chefs, farmers, and brewers blend together in a community-wide celebration of cookery and craft. Regional chefs will cultivate a dinner of specialty dishes, incorporating ingredients from neighborhood farms. Beer pairings will be aplenty, with 20-plus local breweries working alongside chefs to accordingly accompany the event’s foodie fare. A percentage of all event profits will be donated to Eat Local NY, an online marketplace that exclusively features New York State products and aspires to help end child hunger.

September 15: Women in Beer

While beer may be heralded as the ultimate emblem of macho manpower and grit, this event showcases local ladies who are kicking some serious brewery butt. Come join a panel of female brewers, bartenders, cpas and owners for a night of beer talk, stories, and samples at Tuckahoe’s Broken Bow Brewery, and discover why beer isn’t just for the boys.

September 16: DeCicco & Sons: Annual Grand Tasting

Year two of DecCicco & Sons grand beer tasting is around the corner, and we can’t wait to dive into the 30 different pours on tap, some exclusive to the event. So what will you find there, you ask? The Rubus Rebus raspberry-red sour from Grimm Artisanal Ales and the aged Apricot Ale from Cascade Brewing are two of the many unique finds. Oh, and Westbrook Brewing Co. will make the trip up from South Carolina to serve up some cake. Well, not quite. Try their Mexican Cake stout, aged on cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks, and fresh habanero peppers. And yes, there will be food.

September 18: Harvest Bottle Release & Farmers Market

This go-to market event for beer brewers, buyers, and collectors features rare and exclusive releases typically not found in stores, all under one roof. Sort through selections from local favorites like Rushing Duck Brewing Co., Bull & Barrel, and Chatham Brewing, and many more at the day-long Newburgh Brewing Company event. Even Roadies Food Truck will be there. Will you?
