Best Thing to Happen to the Local Music Scene

Best Thing to Happen to the Local Music Scene 2014: The Towne Crier Moves to Beacon

The Towne Crier Moves to Beacon

In 1972, Phil Ciganer opened Towne Crier Café, and the restaurant and performance venue instantly became a beloved destination for live music. So it was a bleak day when the fabled Pawling location lost its lease — that is, until Ciganer resuscitated the magic in an industrial building close to the Metro-North station in Beacon. Now New York City dwellers also can enjoy the plethora of jazz, folk, and world music concerts. When there are no amps in sight, weekday happy hours and dishes like farm-fresh chicken marinated in ginger, sesame, and soy keep locals sated. 845-855-1300; www.townecrier.com
